Conventional treatment for inflammation

Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as aspirin, ibuprofen, and gold compounds; and steroid-based drugs such as corticosteroids and immuno-suppressive drugs are widely used for treatment of chronic inflammation. However, due to the wide range of adverse side effects including stomach irritation, gastritis or ulcers caused by long-term use of these medications, they should be used only for short-term relief. Moreover, corticosteroids and immuno-suppressants can cause serious side effects by lowering immune function. If we take away the protective side of inflammation, we are at threat of attack from those invaders that our immune system usually eliminates. This dual nature makes treating inflammation complicated. This is one of the reasons why Natural Medicine can be so invaluable in treatment of inflammation.
